Quaddus Campaign – Status Phase 3

With the evacuation of the Quaddus System well in hand all the action has consolidate on Quaddus Prime. The Imperial Navy, what’s left of it, teaming up with T’au and Ulthwe ships have been shuttling the human survivors to Quaddus Prime where the Ulthwe have managed to get a webway portal operational and will begin to lead the human survivors to a suitable planet out of this doomed system. The Gene Stealer Cult have secured the mining planet of Quaddus Tertius and are awaiting their ascension. The Tyranid hive has also consolidated to Quaddus Tertius awaiting the rest of their hive to arrive. The Imperial Guard have assumed the logistics for the evacuation of Quaddus Prime. The T’au have been keeping the hoard of Orks from over running the refugee camps while they are also searching for valuable artifacts on Quaddus Quartus. With most of the planets evacuated or abandoned, the T’au are throwing stronger and stronger detachments at the Orks in an effort to buy more time for the Ulthwe and Imperial Guard to get civilians out of the system before the “stilling” or the Tyranids take over the whole Quaddus system.

ChatGPT Adds to Narrative

It was interesting, I have been messing around with ChatGPT and decided to see what it would do with one of my narrative mission reports of a mission with my Raven Guard and Tom’s Drukhari. You should read the mission report from April 2021, Dire Reports at Portus Lemanis Quake Site, before reading what ChatGPT gave me.

The aftermath of the battle was haunting. The swirling malevolent fog still lingered, as did the oppressive stillness. The dead and wounded were collected and loaded onto the Thunderhawks. As they lifted off from the quake site, Brother-Librarian Ordus was already planning his revenge. The Drukhari would pay dearly for what they had done. The captured brothers would be rescued, and the Archon and Haemoculus would feel the full wrath of the Raven Guard. The memories of their fallen brothers would be avenged.

The Corvo Mortis finally came through on the vox, informing them that they were able to track the Drukhari forces as they fled the sector. Brother-Librarian Ordus smiled grimly, knowing that the hunt would soon begin. It was time for the Raven Guard to show the xenos the true meaning of terror.

As they made their way back to their base, Brother-Librarian Ordus could not help but feel a sense of grim determination. They would not rest until they had avenged their fallen battle brothers and rescued the prisoners. The Drukhari had dared to cross the Raven Guard, and they would pay for their mistake. The hunt was on.

Quaddus Campaign: Status Report

As Phase 1 of the Quaddus Campaign is coming to an end I thought that I would give a brief status report on the fighting in the system.

The fighting on Quaddus Tertius, the system’s mining world, has been picking up. Reports have come in from Imperial Allies, the T’au Empire and Ulthwe Aeldari, of roaming bands of at least two different Klans of Orks and some Tyranids, not to mention a group of roaming, angry miners. So far, the other planets haven’t reached the level of unrest as Tertius is experiencing.

After weeks of patrols, Quaddus Terrius still remains, for the most part, in the control of the Imperial Governor. With this uneasy stalemate the Planetary Governor, Stavros van der Wyld, is discussing options with his staunchest ally, the T’au. The main discussion item is the impending malaise and how to evacuate the peoples of the Quaddus System, well at least the ruling elite.

There has been no communication from Quaddus Quartus where there has been a strong presence of Adeptus Mechanicus researching ancient alien artifacts. Not even the battalion of Imperial Guard stationed there have reported in days.

Quaddus Secundus is still producing its tithe of food stuff, van der Wyld has decided to pull the troops from the Quartus (assuming that they are still battle ready) to reinforce Secundus.

Quaddus Campaign: Tainted Gue’fio’shas

While out on routine patrol Aun’mo and his patrol were ambushed by a fast patrol of what appeared to be gue miners. They turned out to be more like the Fio’shas1. They traveled in a large pack with a unit of fast bikes as their shock troops. The battle was tenatious and brutal; their flamer weapons turned out to be too much for the Aun’mo’s patrol to handle. These Gue’fio’sha. These gue’fio’sha fought with a tenacity that was more than that the gue’la, known as Astra Militarum by the Gue, so Aun’mo ordered tests done on one of the remains left behind.

When the tests came back it was discovered that these human worker warriors were tainted. They were not tainted by what the humans call chaos, but something even more insidious – they were tainted by Y’he DNA. These humans were classified as Gue’fio’shas’y’he. Soon, a patrol would be tasked to capture a live specimen for testing.

Quaddus Campaign: First Contact

Aun’mo landed planet side in the designated meeting place, a remote ruins at the mouth of a valley. The place was eerily quiet, devoid of any life, not even what the Gue’la call “rats”. Scans showed no signs of life. He tasked the Mal’kor1 team under the command of Mal’kor’ui Ya’va’eldi2 with overwatch of the ruined town. Aun’mo sent Shas’vre Ju’s XV25 Stealth Suits on recon.

Several decs3 later, still no sign of the gue contact, or any life for that matter. If it wasn’t for Aun’mo’s presence the Shas’la would have been very uneasy. The Pech’la4 and their unruly hounds were clucking uneasily in their native language, Aun’mo could tell that they were on the verge of breaking. “Patience isn’t one of their strongest attributes.”, Aun’mo thought to himself.

Quaddus Campaign: Help Arrives

The shipment of Gue’la1 minerals was late. Very late. The Gue’la should have been at the drop site 4 rotaa2 ago. Tension was high in the convoy, trying to hide this long in the Gue’la system was dangerous. There were not enough military ships in this convey to put up a fight if the Gue’ron’sha3 were to find the convoy lurking this close to an Imperial world. That is when the Kor’la on comms rose from her station and walked over to the Kor’o Au’lys.

Quaddus Campain: Mayday-Mayday?

On the largest, most prosperous planet in the Quaddus system, a small backwater solar system in the Nephilim Sector, Ultima Segmentum, just North of the Pariah Nexus, things were not right. It was hard to put a finger on it, but there had been no interstellar traffic for weeks now. No official response from outside the system. With no official word, no outside the system traffic, and a strange malaise beginning to affect the outer planets the System, the Planetary Governor on Quaddus Primus was starting to get extremely nervous and befuddled by the situation. The situation was growing steadily worse this month. The disappearances of key nobles and military personnel, coupled with no contact with the Imperium was rapidly approaching a breaking point. The time had come, fearing that his system had been abandoned by the Imperium to suffer whatever fate awaited them. The Planetary Governor, Stavros van der Wyld, decided to break with protocol and put out a distress call in all directions on an open channel; right now, he couldn’t be picky on who his potential saviors would be. The Governor recorded all of the details of their plight and had the message broadcast on a loop.

The only planet other than Quaddus Primus that is of interest is Quaddus Quartus, the farthest from the sun, is nothing more than a frozen tundra. A quarantined frozen tundra. Half a millennia ago the planet was first quarantined by the Adeptus Mechanicus, rumor had it that the were there on The Quest for Knowledge when hydro miners uncovered ancient Xenos ruins under the ice. For a hundred years the ruins were kept secret from the  Ordo Xenos, but once they found out the Adeptus Mechanicus personnel were cleansed and a more stringent defense satellite ring was put in orbit.

Tigrura Prime Campaign Event Practice Run Completed

It was a long day, but we were able to get 3 games in, with after action activities in less than 7 hours. That didn’t include setting up or tearing down the table. We shaved time by leaving the table terrain in tact with slight adjustments based on the deployment zone locations. There were some deficiencies that came on with some one of the old Kill Team missions that I converted that I will have to address before the event.

All in all, I think that this short Campaign will work as an event at the local game store, D6.

Tigrura Prime Campaign Event Practice Run

This week we are doing a practice run of the an event that I am planning to run this Winter or Spring (COVID depending) at D6. This will be another attempt to get the Noctilith Crusade jump started. We will be using the Campaign framework from the War Zone Octarius: Rising Tide book. Since the intent is once again to introduce folks to the Crusade framework in the 9th edition rule book, I decided to keep to the Basic Rule Book’s Crusade Mission Pack and filled in with some custom missions that I converted from Kill Team.

I think that it has a nice flow to the tree. Start with the easy Sweep and Clear mission. If the non-Imperium Attackers team wins, we move to the Supply Drop mission where the Attackers will be sitting up a home base. If the Defenders win we will do the custom mission Recover Intelligence where a Rogue Trader ship has crashed and both sides will want to recover any intelligence that may be on the ship.

The Argovon Crusade Event

I ran an unsuccessful Narrative Crusade event last weekend using the first three Combat Patrol missions. I set up narrative boards for the three missions. I put two Kill Team boards together for the Mission 1 – Sweep and Clear using the sector imperialis sides; Mission 2 – Supply Drop using the ruin sector mechanicus from the 9th edition launch and starter; and Mission 3 – Assassinate taping off a section of a large mat.

The Argovon System is in the Pariah Nexus so technically it is part of the Noctilith Crusade. Only Charlie and I showed up, we played Sweep and Clear. I lost 40 – 25, but managed to take out his Daemon Prince and two squads of Plague Marines, leaving him with only his Pox Walkers. We both made some mistakes early on. I only lost my Bullgryn, mostly because I got stupid and left them out to be shot and then charged the two remaining in the Plague Marines. My Taurox Prime with the missile Hot Shot Volley Cannon load out, combined with Vengeance for Cadia did some serious work.
