Special Crusade Rules

Since we are playing narrative, fluffy games, we only use the rules from the Power Level Update, the Rule book, your army’s codex, and errata for each of those; we also use the GW Crusade Mission Packs and their associated War Zone books when necessary. No Chapter Approved, Balanced Data Slate, or White Dwarf.

The player that goes second does score at the bottom of Turn 5 rather then the Command Phase their Turn 5.

Out of Action

Change to the Out of Action test: If you fail the Out of Action test (roll a 1); roll KIA test (2d6). If the results of the 2d6 roll is 3+ you may choose a Devastating Blow or Battle Scar. On a roll of 2 that unit is removed from your Order of Battle – with the exception of Relics, all buffs to that unit are lost. Relics can be given to the replacement Character or an existing Character (provided they qualify) for no additional RP.

Named Characters must roll the Out of Action test as above since the Area of Operation is a dangerous place and even heroes can be killed or maimed. Since Named Characters can not gain experience points their only option if they fail the Out of Action test, but succeed the KIA test is to take a Battle Scar or pay the 1 Resource Point to skip the Battle Scar.

Phase 1

The initial stages of the Crusade will take place outside the Veil. This means that the Necron Nexus has no effect on travel, morale, or psychic abilities. And we will not use any Battle Zones.

In Phase 1 your armies cannot contain Named Characters; the missions you are on are not relevant enough for a hero of your faction to bother with.  Game size will be Combat Patrol 25PL.

Phase 1 will use no Battlezone, Strategic Setbacks, or Afflictions that aren’t spelt out in the individual missions.

Phase 2

As the Crusade continues just inside the Veil, the Necron caused “stilling” will have effects on the game mechanics for the Crusade armies. This means that there will be some effects on travel, morale, or psychic abilities.

Starting in Phase 2 you gain 30PL to your Supply Limit to increase the size of your Order of Battle since in this phase we will be playing at the Incursion sized 50PL games. Your armies can contain Named Characters; these missions are relevant enough for your faction’s High Command to send a hero to help investigate.

Phase 2 will use Special Rules of the Crusade Misson Pack that is being used for the current Campaign series.

For example, if the current Crusade Mission Pack is Beyond the Veil, the strategic Setbacks (Beyond the Veil page 18) and Afflictions (Beyond the Veil page 18). These will be spelled out in the missions of the Phase 2 Campaign Mission Pack. If you are playing extra games in the Nexus outside of the “key” campaign games roll for one Setback and one Afflictions.

Phase 3

Deep inside the Veil the Necron caused “stilling” will have devastating effects on some game mechanics for the Crusade armies. This means that there will be some effects on travel, morale, or psychic abilities.

In Phase 3 armies can add another 40PL to their Order of Battle because we are approaching the climax of the Crusade. This phase will include Strikeforce sized games of 100PL.

Phase 3 will use Special Rules of the Crusade Misson Pack that is being used for the current Campaign series.

For example, if the current Crusade Mission Pack is Beyond the Veil, the strategic Setbacks (Beyond the Veil page 18) and Afflictions (Beyond the Veil page 18). These will be spelled out in the missions of the Phase 2 Campaign Mission Pack. If you are playing extra games in the Nexus outside of the “key” campaign games roll for one Setback and one Afflictions, in addition to using the Unnerved Affliction.
